Targeted interventions to better meet the specific needs of drug addicted women. The side event will take place on 15 March 2012, from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. at Conference Room M2 of the Vienna International Centre.

To address the issue of gender differences in drug addiction and to support vulnerable women affected by drug abuse UNICRI initiated the project DAWN. The project also includes interventions such as professional training and women's helplines.

During the side event panelists will present the Project objectives and preliminary results, and will provide the audience with concrete examples of gender oriented policies in the area of drug abuse prevention, treatment and rehabilitation. Gender oriented policies adopted at regional and national levels will be presented. The panel will be moderated by Ms. Elisabetta Simeoni, Director of the Scientific Area, Department for Drug Policy, Italian Presidency of the Council of Ministers and Alessandra Liquori O'Neil, UNICRI Project Officer.
